Cooking Instructions

  • In a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Stir and crumble the beef until it is browned and fully cooked. Drain off any excess grease. Add the taco seasoning and water to the beef mixture, then continue cooking for about 5 minutes until the seasoning is thoroughly incorporated.
  • While the beef is cooking, warm the hard taco shells in the microwave according to package instructions to make them pliable and ready for assembly.
  • Take one flour tortilla and spread 2 tablespoons of refried beans evenly over the surface. Place one warm hard taco shell in the center of the tortilla, then fold up the tortilla sides to wrap around the hard shell, creating the double decker.
  • Spoon the seasoned beef into each hard taco shell. Add your favorite toppings such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and salsa to customize your tacos. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Use lean ground beef to reduce grease and keep the tacos healthier. Heating the hard taco shells is essential to prevent them from cracking when wrapped in the soft tortilla. You can substitute refried beans with black beans or pinto beans for variation. Feel free to add jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy kick. Double decker tacos are best enjoyed fresh to maintain the contrast between crispy hard shells and soft tortillas.
