Ingredients
  

  • 8 cups popped popcorn
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

Instructions
 

  • Pop the popcorn and place in a large bowl removing unpopped kernels
  • Preheat oven to 250°F and line a baking sheet
  • Melt butter, sugar and corn syrup until bubbling
  • Simmer briefly until slightly thickened
  • Stir in cocoa powder, vanilla, salt and red coloring
  • Add baking soda and mix quickly
  • Pour over popcorn and coat evenly
  • Spread on baking sheet and bake 30–45 minutes stirring occasionally
  • Cool completely and break into clusters

Notes

Stir gently to avoid crushing popcorn. Bake long enough for crisp texture. Use gel coloring for vibrant results.
