Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ onion, grated
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Noodles & Sauce

  • 2 ½ cups egg noodles
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups Swiss cheese, grated

To Finish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped for serving
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, grated onion, garlic powder, ground nutmeg, Kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly, then shape into meatballs.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Bring salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles for 2 minutes less than package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and heavy cream. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • In the baking dish, spread the cooked egg noodles evenly, arrange the browned meatballs on top, and pour the creamy sauce over everything. Sprinkle with grated Swiss cheese.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For best results, use fresh grated onion. You can substitute beef broth with vegetable broth. Allowing noodles to be slightly undercooked prevents mushiness after baking. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
